Elliot Buckner Donates Cooking Skills to the Mill House's First BBQ Fundraiser
On October 29, 2010, Elliott Buckner cooked over 220 pounds of pork for the first annual Mill House BBQ fundraiser. The Mill House is a Richmond clubhouse program for brain injury survivors. Here is what their members had to say about the event:
On Friday, October 29th, from 11 am to 2 pm, The Mill House hosted its first barbeque fundraiser! We had a wonderful man, Mr. Elliott Buckner, come and donate his time and cooking skills for this awesome event. He brought his huge barbeque smoker and camper to our parking lot on Thursday night to start smoking the pork overnight. In addition to the pork, the Mill House members prepared baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, and drinks. The food was delicious and we got many compliments. We made enough food for about 300 people in and out to keep the line moving, because we always had a steady stream of customers. Jo Beth helped in the assembly line, Claire filled coleslaw containers, Nelson was on clean up duty and everyone was busy contributing to this well oiled barbeque machine. The purpose of this fundraiser was to spread news about the Mill House's services, get to know our neighborhood friends, and raise funds to keep the Mill House running. Thanks to all of our wonderful supporters, customers, and generous donations, we made about $9,000!!!! We are looking forward to making this a continuous yearly tradition, with a bigger crowd next year. Hope to see you then!
