In The Community
Helping the People of Virginia Since 1979
The team at Breit Cantor Grana Buckner are proud to support our local community through a variety of outreach efforts. We sincerely believe that one good deed can spark positive change in the world and improve the lives of our neighbors. For this reason, we strive to support the residents of Virginia both inside and outside the courtroom. We’re always on the lookout for new charities and events that support people in need, so please contact our firm if you’re looking for sponsors.
The following list is a summary of some of the organizations we proudly support.
In the U.S., approximately 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 live in poverty, shouldering more than they should have to. Communities In Schools works directly inside schools, building relationships that empower students to succeed inside and outside the classroom. For 25 years, Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chesterfield has devoted its energy to passionately advocating for Chesterfield County students and families in need. When it comes to making sure children get exactly what they need to succeed in school and in life, they never give up! Breit Cantor is proud to partner with CIS of Chesterfield. Recently we provided bicycle helmets at Back to School nights and taught kids about the importance of protecting their heads from injury.
The Brain Injury Association of Virginia is the primary source of information and personal support for thousands of individuals, families, and professionals living in Virginia whose lives have been touched by a life‐altering, often devastating brain injury. The mission of the Association is to advance education, awareness, support, treatment and research to improve the quality of life for all people affected by brain injury. Breit Cantor is one of four major sponsors who support the organization financially. Our team members are actively involved with fundraisers, events, and educational opportunities. One of the largest fundraisers that we support is the annual charity golf classic held at Salisbury Country Club. This year’s tournament is scheduled for Monday, October 14. Community Brain Injury Services provides services to survivors of brain injury that are designed to help them recover from injury and become more fully integrated into the larger community. Our services help survivors live safely and independently in the community by working with individuals to relearn and refine work skills and rebuild self-esteem, and by offering access to appropriate services and resources to meet their needs. Elliott Buckner and Stephanie Grana have served on the board since 2011 and 2013, respectively.
Breit Cantor is in its 9th year of sponsoring the Mill House Pig Out to be held on Friday, October 11th. Last year our team, led by our in-house grill master, Elliott Buckner, helped to cook and serve up 710 lbs of excellently smoked pulled pork, mass amounts of baked beans, cole slaw, and cornbread, raising more than $12,600 to benefit the Richmond Clubhouse program.
Caleb Wharton was a friend of the Cantor family who passed away too soon. This event is a memorial to friendship held annually at Independence Golf Course. Breit Cantor is proud to be a sponsor of the 14th hole!
The home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games has also become known for hosting great barbecue fare each summer in Lake Placid, all done in the name of charity. The event takes place on Lake Placid’s Olympic Speed Skating Oval. Organized by USA Luge as a means of giving back to its community, the I Love BBQ and Music Festival (ILBBQF), held annually in July, provides needed funding for the nearby Shipman Youth Center (SYC, https://www.shipmanyouthcenter.org/). Breit Cantor’s very own Elliott Buckner competes annually with his Buckner Brother’s Barbecue team
Boys In Blue
The Boys in Blue program is a mentoring program between Richmond City Police and local Elementary Schools. Kids are selected for the program and are paired with an officer to be a mentor for the school year. Officers attend events with the kids and spend time together as schedules fit throughout the year. It is not unusual to find Boys in Blue teams having lunch together at school. Breit Cantor has been proud to sponsor the Boys in Blue program for the last two years by providing t-shirts, luncheons, and special outings like a University of Richmond basketball game.
VB Tragedy Fund
The VB Tragedy Fund was created after the senseless shooting that occurred on May 31, 2019 at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. The City of Virginia Beach partnered with United Way to create a fund for the victims. 100% of the donations collected in this United Way fund will go to the families affected. Breit Cantor has gladly given of our time and resources to support these efforts including a $10,000 firm donation. Jeffrey Breit will be overseeing the fund for the United Way to ensure that the money raised is distributed appropriately to the victims’ families. For more information please visit https://unitedwayshr.org/vabeach/.
Attorney Jeffrey Breit, spoke to WAVY News 10 about the importance of helping the 4 injured victims of the Virginia Beach shooting.
The mission of the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother program is to ensure that no family is without food, no child is without toys, books or clothing and no child or elder is forgotten as we celebrate the holidays in our community! Breit Cantor’s team supports this organization through the Chesterfield County Bar Association.
The vision of the Boys and Girls Club is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The club provides members with dynamic programs focused in five core areas; Character & Leadership Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, and Education & Career.
Together, they encompass our three priority outcomes; Academic Success, Good Character & Leadership, and Healthy Lifestyles. The programs enable a holistic approach to youth development that encourage healthy habits, self-esteem, and helps develop independence and interpersonal skills. Breit Cantor is proud to be actively involved with this organization with both monetary support and hands-on volunteers.
